Trailing Memories
This event ran from December 1st, 2024 to January 5th, 2025 at 11:59 PM UTC.
At the end of every year, the New Sunrise unfurls: A vibrant and jubilant event that wraps us in the warmth of shared memories and the promise of a new year. It's a time of laughter, gifts, and tales, of feasts under the open sky, and of sending our hopes for the coming year to the stars. This year, Hypselle Aster, the First Clovun Astrali, has invited everyone to her home near the Crystal Loch to celebrate the holiday. Hundreds of Stellaborn have been arriving over the last few days to set up their tents beside the lake.
Vanora Malagath, a young and ambitious journalist, has arrived with a pencil and paper in hand and is already beginning a long-awaited interview with the First, Hypselle Aster. “What was your brother like?” Vanora's voice is easily heard from an open window, followed by a warm chuckle that seems lost in old memories.
“Wiley was probably the most fun out of any of us. Although he couldn't move as we could, he always took the challenge with his little cart, chasing us just as fast as he would have if he had legs.” Hypselle chuckles, “He'd always make jokes and make us smile, even when it seemed like there was too much on our shoulders.” The unexpectedness of the interview has drawn a crowd, and their curiosity is piqued as they watch from the window. Hypselle seems oblivious to the onlookers as she rummages in a small box beside her. Her smile falters as she pulls out an envelope, her brow furrowing in confusion. “Is something wrong?”
The older Astrali's attention is slow to react, her eyes barely glancing away from the paper. “I…I don't recall ever seeing this.” Her voice has turned into a whisper, “I would have remembered if he wrote something.” Her fingers carefully pulled open the ancient envelope, and her eyes quickly scanned the paper as if she were starving for something she knew was impossible.
Tears, held back during the interview, now flow freely down Hypselle's cheeks, a testament to the depth of her emotions. Vanora instinctively reaches for the tissues between them. “If this is too much, we can stop. I can return another time, give you some space—”
“No.” Her response was quick, her hands gripping tighter around the letter. “I'm going to need your help, as well as whoever else we can find. Wiley and the Goddesses have sent us a mission.”
Hypselle passes around Wiley's Note to those who wish to read it in its entirety.

Following incoherent sentences and the quick trot of Hypselle, the overnight travel from the First Astrali's home was brisk and unstopping until you reached the outskirts of Suntide just after the sun rose. The residents of the nocturnal town had already tucked away for the day, making the town almost seem…abandoned.
“Hypselle, where are you going? You haven't said anything I can understand since we left your home, and we are all worried about you!” Vanora called as she struggled to keep up with the faster of her kind, unable to transform into a more viable form for traveling on land. “Not all of us can sprout a pair of extra legs, you know!”
The older Astrali finally slowed to a halt just outside of a ruined and overgrown building, nestled mere feet away from the ocean. “Find what once was treasured, From wooden beams we measured, Mysteries that beg to be unfurled, In a language all its own, veiled in swirls.” Hypselle mumbled, half to herself. “Wiley, Hallias, and I built this cabin together. It was a place where he could relax and easily access the water without the need for his cart…”
Her hooves took her a step closer to the old building before she hesitated, tears beginning to line her eyes. “I'm going to need your help, little ones. Please go in there and see what you can find that would answer that riddle. Maybe a picture, or something that seems…out of place, maybe.”
PROMPT TASK: Draw your Stellaborn searching Wiley's Shack for something important to him.
Week 1 Rules:
The Attribute bonus of this prompt is Intelligence (INT).

WEEK 1 COMMENT
“There, that!” Hypselle calls out, running over to an Astrali who is holding an old painting with moss creeping up one of its corners. She gently takes the canvas to look it over, a small smile creeping over her face as she wipes a bit of the moss away.
The moss reveals an original painting of Wiley standing in front of what looks to be a large hut with several young Astrali standing beside him. Although it seems like nothing more than a happy memory, Hypselle seems to be fascinated with the image.
“That's the day we officially opened the young Nova hut to help all fresh starlings gather their bearings…” She pulls the image closer to her face, squinting gently, “He's not wearing his bracelet. He always wore it since it reminded him of the coral reef he first landed in. I know I had seen him with it leading up to this picture, but I didn't realize he didn't have it anymore. He must have left it there after he learned about—” The First abruptly cuts herself off, her attention turning to the group. “We have to go to the ruins.”
After a few more hours of traveling, you and the others find yourself staring at the dust and dirt of the remains of the building from the painting. There is nothing left of it besides some charred and dusty boards, alongside flowers of varying ages, from long and withered to fresher buds.
“This was the Nova hut, so somewhere around here, there must be his bracelet—”
A rustling from a pile of boards towards what would have been the back of the building pulls your attention as the shimmering of jewelry catches the light. As you reach for it, the bracelet moves away from your grasp, creating a soft clicking sound as it pulls across the boards. As you reach for it again, Vanora quickly calls out, “Stop! Don't touch it—that's not the wind.”
Confusion runs through the crowd at the sudden panic in her voice before red eyes begin to manifest just above the bracelet, a shadowed body beginning to form in front of your eyes until the bracelet dangles just above your eye level. The creature snorts at you as the shadows around it continue to fluctuate, dissipating as soon as it gets too far from its shape. Hypselle's voice is barely loud enough to be heard as she breathes, “A Soulshade.”
As if its name being said was a command, the beast quickly takes off eastward, leaving nothing but a trail of dust behind it.
“After it!”
PROMPT TASK: Chase the Soulshade in an attempt to retrieve Wiley's bracelet.
Week 2 Rules:
The Attribute bonus of this prompt is Agility (AGI).
- If drawing, artwork must be fullbody and colored.

WEEK 2 COMMENT
The thundering of hooves and feet is usually enough to scare off any creature, and as the group comes hurtling towards the banks of the inlet just outside of the The Marr of Vioness, the Soulshade seems to be no different. As it comes to a stop under the shadow of a large tree by the waterside, it seems to understand its predicament.
“Give that BACK!” Hypselle yells, charging ahead of the slowed group towards the creature, hands outstretched. But as she gets within reach, the beast seems to completely dissipate into the shade of the tree, leaving naught a trace of its presence beside the \\clink
of the bracelet against a rock on the ground.
Hypselle is quick to grab the small trinket as her chest rises and falls quickly with the exertion of her charge, dirt tumbling into the water as she stops to turn it over in her hands with frantic movements. When it seems to pass her inspection, she finally begins to turn back to the group. “Thank the Goddesses that no harm was done. It seems like it was—”
The bubbling of water from behind her pulls all of the group's attention again as the liquid begins to fluctuate of its own accord, pulling at some of the dirt that just fell into the bank. Where some might have thought the Soulshade was an intimidating creature, what now rises from the depths makes it seem like it was nothing more than a flighty Prismhawk. With Hypselle standing at about average for a Traveler Clovun Astrali, she seems dwarfed by the size of the creature that begins to lean over her, watery jaws open in dripping hunger. The water appears to follow its movements, creating whirlpools around its body and arms.
“Quickly, throw it an item, or do something! That's a Hudoviathan, and if we don't act soon, it's going to…” Vanora calls out to everyone, quickly reaching into a magical pack at her side to pull out a Cosmic Clownfish and throwing it in the monster's direction.
Either…
A) Defend Hypselle from the Hudoviathan.
B) Throw it ONE Crafting Item.
Week 3 Rules:
The Attribute bonus of this prompt is Defense (DEF).

WEEK 3 COMMENT
As the beast retreats into the water, leaving Hypselle luckily unscathed, the water seems to completely recede with it, revealing a flight of cracked, stone stairs that lead deeper into the depths of the water.
Vanora is the first to advance, taking advantage of her innate confidence and water abilities to take the first few steps into the fresh canal. After descending several steps, she turns her head back to the crowd that has amassed at the bank, curiosity sparkling in her gaze. “It's a tunnel that leads farther down, but there is enough air down here to handle all of us. It's like the water is…repelled somehow, creating a corridor.” She nods before leading the group farther into the depths of the unknown.
Those who were brave enough to follow eventually reached a large chasm that stood at least fifty feet tall from floor to ceiling. Water dripped endlessly from a couple of cracks in the walls, but the structure appeared sturdy enough. However, the room seemed small in comparison to its most striking feature: a large stone door that looked like it hadn't been opened in centuries, adorned with a carving of a large owl at its center.
Searching for a handle is quickly shown to be fruitless, as it seems as if there's no way to open it, until a voice as gravely as the stone around the group echoes in the chamber:
“What story do you hold within? What truth do you keep hidden? A pose so elegant, so divine, revealing clues in every line. Strike a pose; let me see the riddle that lies within thee. A mystery waiting to be told in the secrets you behold.” Voices begin to mumble around the room in confusion as some try to decipher the ancient riddle before Hypselle moves to the front of the group and begins to sing a story about an owl that flew too close to the stars, her body moving in soft dance moves with her tale. As she draws the song to an end and ends with a bow, there is a soft clicking noise from beyond the door.
“It seems you have to strike a pose that relates to something you love, or maybe just any pose at all. I think that if we all do that, we will be able to pass through.” She nods, clutching the small coral bracelet to her chest. Vanora is the next to advance, although instead of striking a pose, she a neat pile of 50 Star Tokens. A heartbeat of silence begins to cast doubt on her offering until another soft click sounds from the door. “It looks like if you leave an offering of Star Tokens, that'll work too.”
Either…
A) Strike a pose, any pose!
B) Leave 50 Star Tokens beside the door.
Week 4 Rules:
The Attribute bonus of this prompt is Strength (STR).
- This prompt presents the ability to SKIP the requirement if you leave an offering of 50 Star Tokens. If you decide to leave an offering, you don't need to draw for this prompt.
- Artwork must be fullbody and colored.
- Background is optional, and the door is not required.
- Writing is NOT an option for this prompt.

WEEK 4 COMMENT
As the last Stellaborn completes their offering, the door gives a final, satisfied, click, the center parting forward with a whoosh of dust and rock. As it slowly creaks open, it reveals a dark room with nothing but a gigantic stone oak in the middle of it, illuminated solely by a magical white ball of light above it.
Beside the soft pitter patter of the group's steps entering the room, only silence welcomes them in. No one says a word as they approach the centerpiece; everyone's attention turns to the white ball of light. As someone begins to question the reward of this quest, the ball erupts, revealing a powerful entity that shapes the fate of the Stellaborn.
Bright, white light illuminates the entire room to the point that everyone needs to shield their eyes as a brisk cold sweeps over the room with it. As the light fades and the sudden temperature change settles, it becomes apparent that you are no longer alone.
Where the simple ball of light once was now stands an owl that is easily 100 feet tall, even without the perch it stands on. Her wings, slightly splayed to display their grandeur, seem to be giant windows into the galaxy, with stars and astral material moving through it as if they were the sky themselves. Her golden face and beaming white gaze are trained on Hypselle, who has fallen to a kneel in front of the majestic being.
“Mother Emasis, it is an honor to see you here.” The First whispers, her tears falling to the ground alongside the sound of the group bowing to the Goddess, the Mother of Creation, Emasis. “Are you what Wiley sent us to find?”
A voice, both young and old, short yet lasting an eternity, replies, “It has been far too long, my darling starlight. Yet it is a first for all of you.” Mother Emasis turns her attention to the rest of the group before returning it to her First daughter. “It is, for I was the one who sent Zenta to warn him of what Odum would bring with his Artificial creations. And I am afraid I am to warn of it again.”
Sharp gasps break out in the silence the ethereal Goddess leaves.
“Although we have created so many creatures and beings across galaxies and millennia, the Astrali has been one of our greatest. The clusters of your individuality and the combined work of my sisters and I have created something far beyond what we'd ever thought possible—even beyond you.” Mother Emasis's all-encompassing voice fills the room, along with the starlight from her wings. “However, our first trial runs before you, starlight, were more fruitful than we thought. And that leaves a potential danger in your future.”
“Your first trial runs?” Vanora speaks up, her voice surprisingly strong in the face of something so impossible as one of the Goddesses.
The bright eyes of the goddess close for a mere moment as she responds, “We had to perfect our build of star clusters and astral material before we started building you, and with what unused star clusters we had, we sent them here, to Stellagos. We had intended them to be a resource for you down the line. However, your ancestor found that they had not stayed in the ground as we believed they would.”
There's the sound of large, ruffling feathers as Emasis returns her wings to her sides, breaking the sight of the galaxy from those watching. “I cannot divulge much more than that. Watch for those in the ethereal, my children, as they are watching you.”
“Mother, what does that mean? You must give us more than that!” Hypselle cries, the tears that had once been barely a trickle now turned into streams. “How can I protect them if you do not give me more?”
“Your star brother asked the same thing, starlight. However, we cannot interfere with that of our creations so as not to upset the balance of the cosmos. This meeting alone is tipping the scales.” A tip of her wing reaches out to The First Clovun, its size easily the length of several, though as gentle as a caress. “Before I leave, Wiley asked me to bid you one final farewell: Do not fret, my sister. Although my stars may not be with you physically, remember that they are always above you. They keep me connected to you, even if I’m millions of miles away.”
Before Hypselle is given a chance to respond, the blinding light returns to take The First along with it, leaving the room with only Emasis and the group that had taken the journey this far. “Do not fret, children, for starlight has been returned to the surface to visit the remains of her star brother. She is safe, and so are you.” A soft laughter, much like an owl's call, echoes in the room before it silences once more. “I shall give each of you one question to ask, which I must answer. Whether my answer is lie or truth will be up to you to decide, but remember that I cannot shift the balance of the cosmos with whatever I reveal.”
Ask Mother Emasis one burning question you may have, but be warned that she may answer with silence or a lie if it endangers the cosmic balance.
Week 5 Rules:
The Attribute bonus of this prompt is Charisma (CHA).
- A colored headshot or bust of your Stellaborn is required.
- A written question must be accompanied with the headshot for Emasis to answer.
