Researchers believe that the Soulshade has been around far before the The First and that it has no real connection with the collection or thievery of souls, with its aggressive nature pointing in such a direction. However, its desire to keep its distance from lingering Stellaborn argues the point to be inconclusive, leaving them with more questions than answers.
Those who have spent years trying to understand the behavior of the Soulshade say that it's a somewhat reclusive creature, but any further study is nearly impossible as it always dissipates into the shadows before they can follow it, presenting a tantalizing challenge to researchers.
