Kriggy

Once hidden deep beneath Mount Onyx and the underground protection of Tynogeum, the Kriggy has only recently come to the surface of Stellagos. It is believed by the Tartyn that the Kriggy is a combination of the Vadi Photia and Edall's powers, and is a living representation of where the core greets the earth. Despite being locked off from the world above, these hardy creatures are naturally gentle giants to those who greet them.

Tartyn scholars have noted that the Kriggy arrived sometime after they did, estimating the first emerged around 20 BL from the shores of Photia's Blood. They are hard-working creatures that helped build the foundation of Tynogeum with their work ethic and strength, becoming an essential part of the Tartyn lifestyle. When Queen Batea decided to close off the connection point from the surface, it was decided that the Kriggy were to stay with them. She has testified that her distrust of the Astrali and their harmful ways to Edall is what kept the Kriggy below in her domain, instead of letting some of the early Astrali envoys take some with them.

Those who bond with a Kriggy almost always speak of their goofy yet stubborn nature, making them not only a fun yet useful Roamkin to bond to.

Anatomy

Due to being created in the lava pits of Tynogeum, the Kriggy is built for exceedingly hot environments. Their skin is thick and covered in heat-insulating, hydrophobic fur, allowing any liquid to glide off them without touching the skin. Since the Kriggy loves wallowing in any lava bath they can find, this fur is necessary for keeping their super-heated core level. Their internal temperature ranges depending on the subspecies, with the Bubore normalizing around 2,000°F (1,100°C) and the Handsomer normalizing around 1,200°F (650°C).

Each Kriggy is usually covered in ore deposits or molten rock growth, usually found on their shoulders or thighs. It is mainly believed that this is due to their forming process, however, some scholars believe it forms a protective shield for their muscles.

Like other Roamkin, the Kriggy's Astral Cores do not function like a Stellaborn's. Like most other Astral creatures, they appear to be the central life source, but researchers above and below the ground debate their origin. Those who believe in the Goddesses hypothesize that they were formed by Iphion, whereas those who believe in the Vadi believe that they were awakened by Photia. Regardless of their origin, their Astral Core cannot be altered by Chronovelour.

Besides the Astral Core, the Kriggy needs to eat regularly to maintain their internal temperature. This usually consists of items found in the earth or buckets of lava, depending on whether the Kriggy needs to lower or raise their temperature. Without proper food, the Kriggy will eventually cool off to a point when their core is no longer viable, and they will turn to molten stone.

Species Research

Thanks to the diligent work of Laurel Institute scholars in Demithos and the combined research with Quasar Academy researchers, the following information has been recorded on Kriggys.

Creation: Debated; Unknown
Origin: Lavaborn, Photia's Blood
Flair: Immense Strength
Lifespan: 20 to 250 years
Height Range: 1ft (30.5cm) to 5.5ft (168cm)
Diet: Lava Flows, Ore, Metals

Star Cycle Information: It is believed an extraordinary number of early Astral Cores still reside beneath the surface and core levels of Stellagos. These cores slowly rise to the surface via sub-level plate motion. Although their true origin is debated, the Kriggy emerges as a Kriglet Prismhawk Hatchlingfrom the lava pools and flows of Photia's Blood. Although roughly the size of a Startato at emerging, these little rascals are known for their goofy nature. They often sniff out their future bonds rather than their bonds picking them, or they find themselves following other herds of Kriglets to the Gem Meadows to terrorize the gem farmer crops. Once bonded, or finding a sustainable food source among other Kriglets, these tiny goofballs will quickly grow in size and shape. Although it is usually predestined, scholars are confident that a Kriglet's growth into a Hamsomer or a Bubore can be influenced by the environment and the work around them. For example, if a Kriglet is surrounded by farmers, or in an environment where strength is necessary, they are more likely to become Hamsomers to assist those around them with their strength. However, if a Kriglet is raised by a blacksmith or someone who regularly works around ores, they are likely to become Bubores to speed up the smelting process. While they might seem large and unruly thanks to their playful nature, the Kriggy usually needs no training. They grow up learning what to do and often will know what to do better than a Stellaborn would. Even if training was attempted, it's likely the Kriggy would instead nap or roll over for belly rubs rather than listen. When a Kriggy reaches the end of their Star Cycle, they usually will find a comfortable or memorable spot that they had experienced with their bonded or important in their life to rest forever as molten stone.

Pattern Research: All Kriggy seem to follow the same natural patterning shown in the research images provided. However, this natural patterning can be altered using a Spectreat to follow the will and desire of either the Kriggy or its bonded. Research has concluded that following the consumption of a Spectreat they can change color and pattern at will, however, it does not apply to their Astral Core.

Subspecies: There are two different types of Kriggy: Hamsomer and Bubore. A Kriggy's subspecies is developed by necessity or environment, considering their bonded's occupation or access to lava or ore.

Each variation of Kriggy has a different boon that assists their bonded on their daily adventures, however, dedicated research has found that only one Kriggy can be bound to a single Stellaborn at a time. This restriction is because bonding too many to a single Stellaborn affects the stability of the Stellaborn's Astral Core.

Bubore Kriggy Title Divider

Bonded Boon: Instantly smelts gathered ore found during Gathering Activities.
Energy Charge: One (1) per bi-weekly.
Roamkin Card Variations: Natural Card & Spectrum Charged Card
Stardust Intensity: 3

Natural Bubore Roamkin Card Bubore (Bub-ore) Bubore Kriggy (Click for larger image)Kriggys are lazy companions that are often spending their time curled up in a bed or beside a warm fire. They love to lay as close, if not on top of, their bonded or other Stellaborn they have grown close to. If they aren't sleeping, they are snacking, finding some left-behind ore or ingot that they can chew on to occupy their time. This habit is either a boon or a detriment to a Stellaborn, especially if they make a habit of leaving around smelted ingots but no unsmelted ores for their Kriggy to eat. When a Bubore eats raw ore instead, they digest it within a few minutes in their Astral Core then spit back out a ingot ready to use.

Hamsomer Kriggy Title Divider

Bonded Boon: +10 Strength (STR) bonus in ONE instance of Strength (STR) based Tasks.
Energy Charge: One (1) per bi-weekly.
Roamkin Card Variations: Natural Card & Spectrum Charged Card
Stardust Intensity: 2

Natural Hamsomer Roamkin Card Hamsomer (Ham-some-ore) Hamsomer Kriggy (Click for larger image)Kriggy are more energetic then their smaller counterparts, but their energy levels are slower than one might expect. When they run they often take a little longer to catch up, but their happiness is often gauged by how heavy their steps are as they run. 'The greater the shake, the happier the Krig', as some Tartyn say! Their strength and ability to haul even the heaviest objects is an immeasurable boon to most Stellaborn, making the Hamsomer a vital companion in most businesses. When they aren't hauling large items or helping out their bonded, the Hamsomer is a laid back Roamkin that loves to follow their bonded around, regardless of if they want the trailing friend or not.
