Aphus & Elpyso

Through research over the last three hundred years since the arrival of The First, researchers in Quasar Academy in conjunction with those in Nebula's Reach have come to find that Kunvadis is not blessed with only one moon, but two. Both seem to act independently yet in tandem with each other's timing as one appears during the day while the other at night. The only time both moons can be seen at the same time is when the sun is setting or rising, with each peaking over the other side of the horizon like a brief meeting.

The first moon that was discovered was Elypso, as their appearance was the easiest to see as soon as Vara set and it became the highlight of the night sky. Months of research led scientists to the understanding that Elypso's waning and waxing period completed a full cycle every two weeks. Though it has already been noted that Elypso's relative strength to the planet could be seen with events like the Loch Lights and the tides around the continent, very little about the moon has been discovered.

The second moon took much longer to discover and research due to what researcher's called its 'shy personality' hiding beneath Vara's rays and light. Its existence was only recorded and named when in 125 AL, this mysterious moon was able to block out the brightness usually provided during the day, while Elypso still rested on the opposite horizon. It was given the name Aphus in reference to its hidden capabilities to block out such an ever-present star like Vara. Despite this, Aphus was extremely difficult to research after its noted presence as Vara constantly shielded it from view and it took nearly 200 years before its complete moon cycle was confidently recorded. In comparison to the speed in which Elypso completed its cycle, a complete cycle for Aphus takes nearly seven times longer at three and a half months to finish.

Myths

Although all Stellaborn know of their Deities, some believe that some unnamed ones have gone to rest in the planetary beings that are Aphus and Elpyso. Though they have no names to call them beyond the ones researchers gave the planets, their constant avoidance yet recognition of one another let alone their relationship with Vara has led to several spinning myths and tales about their origin.

In the myths, Elypso is believed to be the scorned brother of Aphus that Vara banished to eternal dark, much like Odum was by his sisters. Though the answer varies on whether that makes Elypso a bad or good figure in the star system, many feel for the isolation he was left in while Aphus was able to stay in the embrace of Vara. As for Aphus, he is believed to be the lover of Vara who stole the heart of the supposed deity to stay close to her for all time.

The love Aphus received from Vara as he hides forever in her light is responded with mixed feelings, as some believe he manipulated her to protect him from the supposed wrath of Elypso while others believe it is because Vara never wishes to be far from the one she adores.
